Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 12:50:50 GMT

Bruce Helmer and Peg WebbThis time of year, when people are asked to give money to a cause or decide on how to make more of a difference with their charitable giving, they can sometimes get stuck. So, today we’d like to offer seven simple ways to get “unstuck” and amp up your giving.No. 1 Focus on the people and causes you care most about. As year-end approaches, focus on one or two causes or organizations that you care the most about. Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 12:50:50 GMT

KHAN YOUNIS, Gaza Strip (AP) — The expected release of a second group of hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel was delayed for hours Saturday as the militant group accused Israel of not complying with the deal's terms. The last-minute snag created a tense standoff on the second day of what was meant to be a four-day cease-fire.Until Saturday afternoon, it still appeared everything was going according to plan. Aid trucks were entering Gaza, Hamas handed a list of more than a dozen hostages slated for release to mediators Qatar and Egypt, and Israel's Prison Service prepared a list of dozens of Palestinian prisoners for release. But by nightfall, as the hostages should have emerged from Gaza, Hamas announced that it was delaying the release over what it said were Israeli truce violations. The group alleged the aid deliveries permitted by Israel fell short of what was promised, and that not enough of the aid was reaching northern Gaza — the focus of...

Luton moves four points clear of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 12:50:50 GMT

LUTON, England (AP) — Jacob Brown scored an 83rd-minute winner as Luton beat Crystal Palace 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday. It was only Luton’s second win in 13 games in English soccer’s top division this season after securing promotion last term. The result saw it move four points clear of the relegation zone.Teden Mengi fired Luton ahead in the 72nd minute at Kenilworth Road, but Michael Olise quickly evened the score in the 74th. Brown’s goal ended a six-game winless streak for Rob Edwards’ team since its only other top flight victory against Everton in September. Jefferson Lerma came close to rescuing a point for Palace with a header that hit the post 13 minutes into stoppage time. The win reflects Luton’s improving form, having picked up five points in its last five games, including a 1-1 draw with Liverpool earlier this month. Defeat for 13th-place Palace means the London club has only won one of its last six games. ___AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/...
