In February, Professor Michael Wysession from Washington University made a bold prediction. He highlighted the unmistakable link between global warming and the recent surge in temperature changes. The rate of warming witnessed today is unprecedented in our planet's history, and greenhouse gases provide the only plausible explanation. Professor Wysession, an expert in geophysics, emphasizes that as we continue to pump more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, we can expect a rise in extreme weather events.Blaming greenhouse gases and global warming for the erratic and extreme weather is only the first step. LAKEWOOD — In order for Denver East sophomore Rosie Mucharsky to hit “Beast Mode” during the Class 5A 800-meter run with a loaded field Friday at JeffCo Stadium, she knew she had to empty the tank. She did just that as the sophomore stunned the field with a winning time of 2 minutes, 9.57 seconds. “Beat Mode” was Mucharsky’s motto this year and she wore a bracelet as a reminder of how last year’s team captains — her sister, Ellison, and Annabel Flippini — drove her. She said the win exemplified the work ethic she put in to get to the top of the podium.Rosie Mucharsky of Denver East high school smiles after crossing the finish line winning the 5A girls 800 meter run during the second day of the 2023 Colorado state track and field championships at Jeffco Stadium on Friday May 19, 2023. By Grant Peck | Associated PressBANGKOK — The official death toll from the powerful cyclone that struck Myanmar has burgeoned to at least 145, including 117 members of the Muslim Rohingya minority, state television reported Friday. It said the figure applied to the western state of Rakhine, where Cyclone Mocha did the most damage, but did not say how many storm-related deaths there have been in other parts of the country. The accounting of casualties from the cyclone has been slow, in part due to communication difficulties in the affected areas and the military government’s tight control over information. The military government has said that unofficial death tolls surpassing 400 are false, but in the absence of independent confirmation, uncertainly remains about the actual extent of casualties and destruction.Mocha made landfall near Sittwe township in Rakhine state on Sunday afternoon with winds of up to 209 kilometers (130 miles) per hour before weakening inland.
