Steelers QB Kenny Pickett leaves loss against Texans after injuring knee

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 09:05:13 GMT

HOUSTON (AP) — Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett sustained a knee injury in the third quarter Sunday against the Houston Texans and it’s unclear if he’ll play next week. But regardless of who is playing quarterback, the Steelers must find a way to get their offense on track if they hope to bounce back from Sunday’s 30-6 loss to the Texans.“We all got to do better,” coach Mike Tomlin said. “I’m looking at us in totality, in terms of what we need to do to win.”Pickett threw for 114 yards with an interception and struggled to move the offense before leaving with the injury. The loss ends a two-game winning streak for the Steelers (2-2) and will likely increase the pressure on third-year offensive coordinator Matt Canada after another subpar offensive performance.Tomlin said Pickett is being evaluated and that he’d know more about his injury later in the week. His injury came when, trailing by 10, the Steelers went for it on fourth-and-1 from the Houston 33 wit...

Patriots pull QB Mac Jones after 2 turnovers lead directly to Cowboys touchdowns

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 09:05:13 GMT

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — With his facemask buried in the turf, New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones didn’t see the touchdown that resulted from his fumble deep in his own territory. He might not have seen the defensive tackle pursuing him then, or the cornerback that picked him off just before halftime. Jones was pulled late in the third quarter of the Patriots’ 38-3 loss against the Cowboys on Sunday, when he had three turnovers. Two of them led directly to touchdowns for Dallas. Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch returned a fumble 11 yards early in the second quarter after Jones was tackled from behind by Dante Fowler, who had come from around the end and knocked the ball loose while bringing the quarterback down. Jones was face down under Fowler when the touchdown was scored. Then just before halftime, when Jones was trying for a long completion to Kendrick Bourne, cornerback DaRon Bland stepped in front of the receiver and returned the pick 54 yards for a t...

LONDON (AP) — David Beckham delves back into the hateful treatment he received following his infamous 1998 World Cup red card — and its impact on him — in a new Netflix documentary series pegged to the 10th anniversary of his retirement.“This whole process has been like an emotional rollercoaster,” Beckham said of the “Beckham” series in an exclusive video interview with The Associated Press. “I’ve never talked about these certain moments in my career and in my life.”The intimate four-part series explores Beckham’s upbringing, his courtship with his wife and his triumphs on the field, but perhaps the most difficult part was revisiting his painful sending off during England’s World Cup match against Argentina.“I hadn’t actually watched it and I hadn’t actually watched the interviews and what people said about me after,” he said, adding that it left him “shocked and emotional.”Beckham was red carded for deliberately kicking the back of Diego Simeone’s leg.
